Offenders in minimum security are housed in a dormitory setting just outside of the maximum security perimeter fence. The maximum security units are surrounded by two fences one of which is electrified. A movement detection system and security towers with armed guards prevents any attempts of escape. Inmates can receive an education while incarcerated and can even earn a GED. Vocational programs offer skills to inmates in building maintenance and food service.
Substance abuse treatment, parenting classes, and a variety of counseling is also made available for inmates. Offenders can work in the correctional industries as a bindery worker, an offset press operator, sewing machine operator, computer operator, assembler in electromechanical, housekeeping, material coordinator, office management, quality assurance inspector and other work details.

It consists of two open-bay wings housing up to offenders. Maximum-security north has three housing units, three with 88, two-man cells. An additional wing, with 16 cells, is a pre-hearing restricted status housing unit. The right-wing, with 44 cells, houses general population. All cells are double bunked.
Average cell size is 8 by 12 feet. Maximum-security south includes five units, each housing up to offenders in two-man cells, except for K-Unit, which has been designated as a Special Needs Unit for mentally ill offenders.
There is also a 72 single cell unit on the south campus devoted to administrative and short-term restricted status housing offenders. An infirmary unit houses up to 14 offenders. The perimeter of the facility is surrounded by two fences with rolls of razor ribbon at the bottom, center, and top of the outer chain link fence, which is 14 feet high. The two fences are approximately twenty feet apart. A microwave movement detection system is installed between the inner and outer fences. The perimeter fence is penetrated by two sally-ports.
Two armed motor patrol officers are also assigned outside the perimeter fence 24 hours a day. Approximately 88 acres are enclosed within the perimeter fence. The Wabash Valley Correctional Facility has the responsibility of managing some of the most problematic offenders in the state maximum-security, restricted status housing, and offenders with mental and physical challenges, end of life offenders.

Do not call the facility for this information. It cannot be given over the phone. All visitors entering the facility are subjected to a frisk search by staff which includes the breast and groin area being physically searched. Additionally, visitors entering visiting areas are subject to additional searches using metal detectors and ion scanning equipment. Specially trained search dogs K-9s may be used as a part of the search process both prior to a visitor entering the visiting area and in the actual visiting room during visits.
If a visitor does not wish to be searched, either by hand or by using other means, they should not attempt to enter. Visitors must register with staff prior to entering the visiting area. You will be required to sign the entry log and be approved for the visit before you are allowed to enter the visiting area. Everyone 16 years old or older is required to show a picture identification. All visitors must present valid identification each time they visit.
Visitors under the age of 18 years of age must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian at all times while on facility grounds. All visitors must wear appropriate clothing reflecting the standards noted in the following Dress Code.
The wearing of expensive clothing or jewelry is discouraged. All male visitors must wear shirts with sleeves, and dress shirts must be appropriately buttoned at all times.
Female visitors are NOT be permitted to wear halter or low cut revealing tops, tube top, midriff revealing tops, swimsuit tops, bodysuits, sheer blouses, leotards, spandex, or any other type of skin tight fitting outfit.
Sleeveless blouses and summer dresses may be worn but no thin strap tops of any type will be allowed.
Any blouse or top that reveals any portion of the under garment will be denied entry into the facility. Female visitors entering the facility are only permitted to wear dresses or skirts, slacks or full-length jeans and shorts No Cutoffs within the lengths listed below.
Hemlines of dresses, skirts, and shorts are not permitted to be more than four inches above the knee. Revealing slits and kick pleats exposing more than four inches above the knee must be pinned. Clothing or other accessories with drug, alcohol advertisements, derogatory slogans, or gang symbolism will not be permitted.

You are not allowed to give any money to an offender. This is considered trafficking and will cause the visit to be stopped, and you will be restricted from visiting the offender in the future.
